A few years ago, a friend gave me a card that read: You are more powerful than you realize.
These words came to mind as I read the Artist’s Way chapter on recovering your sense of power. Each of us has a personal responsibility to 1) Acknowledge the power placed within us 2) Affirm ourselves with positive words in encouraging environments and lastly 3) Advocate by using our voices to speak up for our individual interests and desires. Playing the background serves no one. Step into your power.

I’m at a loss for words today. Writer’s block maybe? Either way, I am reminded of the goodness and glimmers encountered this week. Check them out below:
My solo weekly artist date was visiting the Union Market exhibit opening for Clarence James. He’s a self-taught artist and Howard alum, and his work includes bold, colorful abstract figures addressing individual freedom and societal issues. It gives a bit of Basquiat vibes.
Vague goals produce vague results. This podcast episode got my life all the way together.
I came across a lovely CBS Mornings interview with JOHNNYSWIM. Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez are a beautiful couple sharing their journey to music, love and family. I absolutely loved hearing their story and how intentional they are about creating together.
This is the hottest July in recent memory. Van Leeuwen in D.C. humidity hits every single time. Also strawberry and peanut butter are a magical duo.
I played Dora the Explorer in Atlanta and stumbled across delicious cardamom coffee, beautiful quotes, and fun murals.
This song is stuck in my head. Star. Star. Star. Star. LOL.
This week I’ll be diving into the Artist’s Way chapter on recovering a sense of integrity. The more work I do, the more I feel the resistance and desire to stop while ahead. I’m committed to staying open-minded in this discovery process. The morning pages have a purpose. The artist dates have a purpose. These tasks and check-ins have a purpose. Stay the course, friend. Keep going.
May your week be filled with ice cold water and freeze pops. Stay cool!
Be well,
Chidi
